Founded in California’s medical collective era with a focus on creating the tinctures and capsules their friends and family needed to treat ailments, Proof Cannabis has grown into one of the leading wellness brands in both the medical and recreational markets, available statewide in more than 230 stores.
This year alone, the constantly innovating company has introduced six new SKUs to the California market.
“We have to innovate or we get bored,” says founder and CEO Julie Mercer-Ingram.
Founded primarily as a manufacturer, Mercer-Ingram says the goal has always been to provide access to affordable, high-quality medicine, primarily through high-CBD tinctures and capsules, as well as RSO oil. The company also makes a topical face serum that was designed when Mercer-Ingram discovered an esthetician recommended a product that contained a refrigerant.
“A lot of our products are basically what I need,” she says with a laugh.
Proof has also worked to develop a series of products that highlight minor cannabinoids, such as its “Sleepy” line of products that feature CBN in a 1:1 ratio with THC or the “Elixir Energy” line that matches CBG, CBD and THC in a 1:1:1 ratio.
“We’re continuing to play with this, and play with different ratios and potency, because it’s just so fun,” Mercer-Ingram says. “But also, I think it’s great to have more choice.”
The company recently branched out to the recreational market with its Super Wow-branded high potency, flavored drops, made with the same focus on consistency as the wellness brands
The woman-owned and operated Proof sources all of its cannabis from outdoor farms in the Emerald Triangle with a focus on diversity-owned operations.
“I still love the flower, but when it comes to a manufactured cannabis product, drops and tinctures are just such a versatile way for different applications for consumers,” Mercer-Ingram says, noting the precision dosing the extracted forms provide. “That’s a powerful tool for our consumers to be able to utilize this this amazing plant.”
