Chief operations officer
Green Jar
In an ironic turn of events, Bailey Stuart, a woman who at one point had the benign CBD store she helped open raided by the Alaska Alcohol & Marijuana Control Office in 2016, has now become the sole cannabis-industry representative on the state’s Marijuana Control Board.
“In January [2024], I was appointed by the governor of Alaska to serve on the Marijuana Control Board for the state,” Stuart says. “Our Marijuana Control Board is only five members and only one gets to represent our industry — that’s me.”
Stuart is the chief operations officer for Green Jar, the first cannabis retail store in the Matanuska Valley, which she helped open in 2017. She is also a member of the Alaska Marijuana Industry Association and, as an adjunct professor at the University of Alaska, became the first person at the school to teach a cannabis curriculum.
“That’s the job that I really love,” Stuart says. “I couldn’t believe it when the university brought me in, that we were all in agreement that I would be educating students on this.”
To relax, Stuart travels around the world practicing jujitsu in her free time.
“I spend a lot of time in my head thinking about responsibilities,” she says. “Just having some time where all I think about is not getting choked out is awesome.”
