Depending on the needs of each individual business, some people in the cannabis industry might want their security system to include more than just cameras and eight-foot tall fences.
Special Covert Advanced Resolutions (SCAR) is a private security company that offers just that.
SCAR (www.scarmilitary.com) provides security personnel and armed guards for a variety of different needs, including national security details for VIPs and higher-risk convoys, as well as aspects for marijuana businesses.
CEO Zachary Vdolek said every business may have different needs in terms of security. As far as site security, Vdolek said simply having a security guard on the premises can be a deterrent to crime.
“And if he’s got a shotgun and bulletproof vest, that can be even more of a deterrent,” he said.
One other area that might be of interest, particularly with businesses still being forced to operate in a largely cash-only industry, is transportation.
Washington state regulations require the 502 licensee or an employee to personally transport product. SCAR guards can either ride along with the person transporting product or cash to provide armed support, or can follow in a chase vehicle as an extra security measure.
“It all depends on the operation,” Vdolek said.
He said when considering armed security personnel, compare the cost of the total investment and compare that to his company’s quote.
“The aftermath of not having us can be far more,” he said. “We’re protecting more than just money and products. We’re protecting success.”
