With decades of technology experience in high-risk, high-volume industries like mortgages, alcohol and insurance, David Morris saw the creation of Proteus Business Solutions, an online enterprise resource planning (ERP) system for businesses in e-commerce, retail, health care and highly regulated industries, including alcohol and cannabis, as a natural progression.
“It just made sense,” he says. “We saw the industry and the people becoming more focused on the holistic side of health and plant medicine.”
Morris got started early on learning programming skills by working with his grandfather, who held a master’s degree in computer science and worked for NASA. He became interested in computers at the age of 5, and programming at 8, and then at 12, he began building a small business in his hometown of Indianapolis.
Throughout his professional career, Morris has built award-winning, design, development and IT companies from the ground up. Today his ERP system, which specializes in customer management, point of sale, inventory management, e-commerce, accounting, document storage, grow management and driver tracking, is used by medical and adult-use licensees in 47 states.
“Inventory and cash management needed to be addressed and we were ready to educate the new and existing legacy cannapreneaurs into legitimacy,” he says.
